Play Up Pompey!
FA Community Shield Wem-Belly 2008
MANCHESTER UNITED V PORTSMOUTH
Well ! Wembley - three times in one year !. Totally un believable, well I've still got problems with it.
Stand Up if you hate the Scum ! (Might as well stay standing, except Pete of course who appeared to find that an impossible feat by the time this one was over Hehe!).
And yes, once again that core, me, Dan, Sproolzie (IOW), Pete (IOM), Darren (IOM), Lee (IOM)
Pete again did the business with respect to tickets this time, managing to aquire five together in an excellent position. Would have been briliant for the final as they were just opposite where they positioned the podium / stand after the game.
And so it was that once again Me and Dan met Sproolzie at Portsmouth Harbour station but this time for an early Sunday morning train to Waterloo.
This time the plan was to meet up with the Isle of Man contingent at the Torch as they had travelled down the day before and stayed somewhere overnight.

Outside the Torch - again.
When we arrived at the Torch The Isle of Man Supporters Club, as expected, was already 'squatted' around a table
in the outside area.
Note the charitable gesture on our part allowing a lone Man United suporter to conceal himself amongst us.

WEM-BELLY Competition in progress.
If I remember correctly, which is highly unlikely due to the copious amounta of alchohol being consumed, it was raining
off and on resulting in sporradic incursions into and out of the actual pub.
One of these incursions resulted in the first of the many 'WEM-BELLY' competitions that occurred throughout the afternoon. AND THE WINNER IS ?
I think that generally a very good time was had by all.

Olympic Way, Pete has a friend!

Olympic Way with me in it this time!

Me and Dan's tickets.
There were no splitting up at all this time. Excellent seats, would have been brilliant for the Final as they were just
opposite where the players were after the game. I've already said that ? Anyway Cheers Pete, you did the business.
Just one minor problem ! Pete seemed to be reluctant to hand them out once we arrived outside the stadium which resulted in a skirmish of no real significance other that the confirmation that he can't run and giggles hysterically when teetering of the threshold of his maximum alcohol tolerance capability. Hehe !
It was at this point Pete (P) had and altercation with a miserable person. Problem was he had a police uniform on.
This is how the story goes, I think. . . . Once upon a time there were two Police officers, staioned just inside the ticket gates at Wembley. One called Happy (H) and the other called Grumpy (G). At least that is how P saw it. He always notices these small little details that are of no consequence to anyone else.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, well it was short and nearly very short for P or was that a quick P? Oh no we all did that later. P decided that everyone including G would benefit if G cheered up a bit and so tried to indicate to G that even if he appeared to at least to pretend to be happy when in fact he was miserable then it have a very positive effect on all around. I am not quite sure of the exact wording that P used but G definately did not like it and approached P with all the charm and determination of a police officer about to add to his points tally and paperwork. Fortunately P was too overcome with fear, or was it rum ? to construct anything verbally that could aggravate the situation and Lee, I think, was able to reason with G, such that he let P go with no further todo. And so off for the little P we all went.
And now some pictures.

Stand Up if you hate the Scum!
Oooh look everyone is standing.
and would you like a baloon Harry ?

Faaallling OOverr !

Why the empty Seats ?
Oh I see. Here wasn't he with us ?

Then there were two !

Hot Dogs ! Wish I had an air rifle.
Well thats it picture wise.
All in all it wasn't a bad game, though not amemorable one and ultimately Pompey did the charitable thing and let Man United win, just made sure it was on penalties and not the football. Hehe.
After the game we went off back down to the Torch for a sort of, well, top up.
At least that is what we all did. Pete decided to go to sleep on the floor near the door, Hehe !
There is not much else to say really except Thanks Pompey. We need a new stadium and Wembley sort of feels like home now.
Pompey have won the FA Cup !!! That's more than enough for me. Anything else would have been a bonus.
We're all going to Wembley . . . . . again, One day!
